I was drawn to Hogarth by his images of Georgian life accidentally capturing the pots and crocks of his time. Not merely passive chattels but active bit-part players in the dramas (often violent) they inhabit, my “series” started with Harlots, Rakes and Crashing China. Soon I was hooked on Hogarth, finding more and more layers and an infinity of comment on his material world - and at a time when “Englishness” and modern “Britain” were coming into being.
Further information on the Hogarth Group and the Hogarth Trust with both of which I am also heavily involved, will be available soon.
