Chinoiserie and Europanaiserie:  the ping-pong of East-West influences in the fine, applied and architectural arts: from the oriental pagodas of Staffordshire to the Tivoli-esque fountains marble steamboat of imperial Beijing.  How, in the last 300 years, the West has seen the East -and vice versa- each rolling an exotic mirage into its own artistic palette; most dramatic being the surge of interest in all things Japanese at the end of the 19th century while feudal Japan embraced Western industrial technology, changing the world forever.
